Oh minimalism, where have you gone!!
Still, most of these photos were taken Friday and Saturday but a couple were taken today, Monday so, I'm making this a two week post because it is fairly heavy photo-wise, even if I have kept them smallish, as these are about process. Over the weekend, we redid our driveway and it is now so so so cool!!!
These first 2 show a BEFORE and an AFTER. BEFORE, we had no rebar or even gravel so, we had cracks everywhere. AFTER we have rebar with gravel under it. We did what's called a salt finish, which adds just a subtle texture, with a brushed 1 foot wide border. In the second photo, you can see the texture somewhat. Further down, you'll be able to better see the border. We also fixed an ugly edge into a lovely curve. All and all, we are very pleased.
And shhhhh, don't tell Lauren, we're keeping it a surprise for her until she comes home in November :D
A couple of more BEFORES_same side
And the AFTERS_Taken Monday October 22, 2012_I have a little work to do fixing the panting beds, but at least now the plants on the right side aren't all up against the edge. These have most of the salt washed away but residue remains still. We have to 'water' it every day for at least 2 weeks, the longer it stays damp, the longer it takes to cure and the stronger it will be. And that's also how long the cars are supposed to stay in the street since we can't drive on it.
It's all about the process_Friday October 19, 2012_the old concrete is removed and the gravel and rebar are installed
It's all about the process_Saturday October 20, 2012_the concrete arrives, at 7am!! and is smoothed, scored and then salted & brushed. In the last photo, the salt has dried.
I know, I should have put this behind a collapsible cut, but alas...no.
