The Letter Meme

[livejournal.com profile] secretsolitaire played this meme and then asked if anyone else wanted to so, of course, I said 'hit me with a letter, sweetie' and so she did, the ever problematic:
Letter R.

To begin.
Something I hate: For me, hate is a very strong word, but still, I’ll say REPRESSION. Whether it’s one gender by another, one identity by another, one religion, one culture, one nation, or one race by another, repression is actually equal to hate and consequently, as I see it, shouldn’t be tolerated in any civilized society.

Something I love: READING. Need I say more? I think not!

Somewhere I've been: Did you know that Rhode Island is the only state that begins with an R? And I’ve never been there. And that Russia and Romania the only European countries that begin with an R and again? I’ve never been to either of them either.
So, I’m going with a geographical formation, the ever majestic ROCKY MOUNTAINS.

Somewhere I'd like to go: Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, Wales because I want to go to Wales and, again, there just aren’t that many city-towns in Wales that start with an R. Plus a whole lot of place I really would like to go such as London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Cardiff, and Dublin, notice how none of them start with an R, are seemingly within an easy driving distance of Rhouddlan, meaning under 200 miles, away. Yes, in various directions but whatever.

Someone I know: REGINA. She’s a woman I met and became friends with because our daughters became friends in first grade. Our friendship was complicated by the fact that Regina is a Republican fundamentalist Christian and I am not. I’m a progressive Democrat non-theist. And yet, despite our polar-differences, we were able to forge a fairly tight friendship. When her family moved to Arizona several years ago, after they’d been there a while, she told me that she found it boring that everyone there thought like she did and that she was going to have to find someone like me so she could continue to have lively discussion like we had had. I'm pretty sure she's still looking :).

A film I liked: Rear Window
From Netflix:
As his broken leg heals, wheelchair-bound L.B. Jefferies (James Stewart) becomes absorbed with the parade of life outside his window and soon fixates on a mysterious man whose behavior has Jefferies convinced a murder has taken place. Meanwhile, other windows reveal the daily lives of a dancer, a lonely woman, a composer, a dog and more.
Lauren calls this my ‘stalker’ film. I explain that he’s not a stalker, he’s a photographer, but she insists upon not seeing the difference. It’s also a very stylish who-done-it thriller directed by Hitchcock, consider by many, who know about such stuff, as one of his best, and starring my favorite, James Stewart along with Grace Kelly.

And so to conclude, in the immortal words of [livejournal.com profile] secretsolitaire --If you want to play, leave a comment and let me know you'd like a letter! :)

I like your creative answers to the travel questions. :D

Thank you :) I clicked on every city/town in Wales, all six or so, that began with an R until I found this one, population 4,000, which suited my purposes. Now, I actually want to go there because it's older than the Norman Conquest and that's old and has it's own castle. So cool!

That was fun to read. I'd like to try it, so please give me a letter. :)

Agreed. I did a lot of reading during the holidays.

When her family moved to Arizona several years ago, after they’d been there a while, she told me that she found it boring that everyone there thought like she did and that she was going to have to find someone like me so she could continue to have lively discussion like we had had. I'm pretty sure she's still looking :).

I know the feeling. I have always had friends with different ideas and beliefs and I really prefer it to trying to stay in a bubble composed only of those who agree with you. I like being challenged.

'I did a lot of reading during the holidays.'
Would you recommend one?

Speaking of being challenged, are you sure you don't want a letter so you can play too? Just asking :)
