Passent par la Ville, l'hiver
Comme des etrangers (s/h a ' over the e) amers

Ils se concertent, graves et pales (s/h a ' over the a)
Sur les places et leurs sandales
Ensablent le marbre des dalles

Comme des crosses a (s/h a ' over it) leurs mains fortes
Ils heurtent l'auvent et la porte
Derriere qui l'horloge est morte

Et les adolescents amers
S'en vont avec eux vers la Mer!

I now imagine this to mean: their sandals silted-up the marble (of the) flagstones
