I posted this shot once before in the darkness of winter 6pm, now I post it in the bright sunlight of summer 6pm.

Sunday July 24, 2011 It would seem we eat dinner at The Spaghetti Factory regularly because we do since David likes it and who am I to argue with dinner out downtown. This is my mazithra cheese with brown butter and bacon AND this is my leftovers.

UC Santa Cruz establishment shot :D This was taken along the path frm Jimmy & Lauren's Crown College and the bookstore, so...yeah, kind of pretty.

Monday July 25, 2011 UC Santa Cruz arty shot.

This is where I was obliged to leave my computer for an entire week, but...all better now!!! And how exciting that I can, in fact, follow them on Facebook!!

Tuesday July 26, 2011 Lauren noticed this display at a local Barnes&Noble and thought it very cool. Can you tell why?

Lauren, Cindy and Jimmy in front of the Steinbeck Museum in Salinas, it's located close to where he lived apparently and we had a wonderful time exploring this small but very unique museum

Wednesday July 27, 2011 It's Monterey, no lie

.
Thursday July 28, 2011 a stealth shot of the illusive gumball machine, herding mall variety.

Friday July 29, 2011 How nice will it be when this building gets done!! Seriously though, it is moving right along.

Saturday July 30, 2011 a pretty picture of pretty tile, I think :D

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos!!

Monterey is a gorgeous place that we don't get to nearly often enough given that it's just not that long a drive from where we live. I love Big Sur, you must have had a great time when you stayed there. Having those memories in photos, even if faded, is priceless.

BTW, how do you pronounce Gaeln? Sounds Irish or looks it, almost.

Well, the memories are good and kind of strange, actually. I didn't know it at the time, but the foods I took with me for snacks were foods to which I am allergic. LOL I discovered Bree which has mold in it and ate it all the way from my good friends home in Eugene, OR, down the coast on HIghway 1, or is it 101? Scenery was gorgeous. Portland was wonderful and the Youth Hostel there was GREAT!

By the time we reached Monterey and Big Sur there was a forest fire on the other side of the highway from where we camped. You know that photo that used to be on all the pictures of the highway that winds around toward Big Sur, I got actual shots of that, and post cards I drove it so much.

I don't know if it is still there, but there was a lovely bookstore painted in mint green and decorated with small print sofas, (it was 89) Crossroads or something like that. I sat down in the shop and the worst allergy attack I ever ensued. I was crying and sobbing for no reason and scared. They let me use their phone to call my doc at home and he told me what was happening and what to do.

Turned out I was allergic to smoke, mold, inhalent and foods and 10 other foods. So I had three different kinds of allergies going on.

I have the most gorgeous pictures of coastal fog we saw as we left Big Sur and we were socked in all the way to Santa Barbara or whatever city it was where the highway goes inland from the coast.

I am laughing now. I was one sick puppy that trip and grieving the break up from someone so it was very weird. I treasure the whole journey we made around the western U.S. driving, camping, seeing all the topography I taught my students in middle school and being in some of the most gorgeous campgrounds in the U.S. nestled in among Redwoods. I'm smiling as I write.

Memories are invaluable, yes, they are gaeln. Sorry for rambling. Still smiling. Maybe I'll do an album of that trip. The pictures are all chosen, arranged in order and my first vacation of it's kind ever.

Anyway, thanks for the memories; didn't mean to ramble. So much I can't tell you that was absolutely incredible to see and experience. Thanks for reminding me of the memories. Toddle on over to my LJ and I will write a little something about some of the events, the funniest and most majestic.

Lucky to live so close, you are, gaeln. Luck you are.

Gay-lyn. I wanted gaylen and several other spellings but all that was available is what I got, which works fine since Gael is another way to spell my name.

Don't ever apologize for rambling, I very much liked reading about your adventure -- I took a similar driving trip almost every year with my mom & dad -- and even if that was a particularly difficult way to find out you had several different food allergies, that must have been scary. I hope you do your photo album and that when you do, you'll share it with us. I'd love to see the gorgeous fog photo.

I don't know how to share it. It's not on the computer and I'd have to have it color copied and files made of each page after scanning. Expensive.

I'm almost finished with the QAF Art Album. I'm excited about it.

It was at the time, but, now, it's just one of my many minor chronic conditions. None are life threatening so far and I'm grateful for that. I have the most wonderful friends and am loved and feel quite safe and cared about.
