Project Update #19: Such Good People will Premiere at MGLFF May 9

Hi everyone –

We are so thrilled to announce SUCH GOOD PEOPLE will have its World Premiere at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Friday May 9!

MGLFF is a fantastic festival and we will be screening at the historic Colony Theater on Lincoln Road. We would love for everyone to come. We are so very close to finishing post-production and we are thrilled how the movie is coming together.

Our uber-talented composer, Jonathan Dinerstein, has created a gorgeous score that perfectly compliments the movie’s comedic heartbeat.

We have also completed our color correction, most of our sound mix, and are just now waiting for the last video effects for the film to be complete. Plus, we created a really fun animated opening titles sequence we hope everyone will love. More info is coming soon, including more festival updates.

The synopsis of the movie on the link you posted makes it sounds fairly interesting, but that movie poster's a hot mess. It looks badly 'shopped and doesn't really give any sense of what the movie's about. I first saw it and was like 'okay...the movie's about two guys that are Buddhists...and there's a totally random pile of money. Huh.'

Since the synopsis paints it as a screwball comedy, perhaps it would have been better to go with something that you'd expect from a Scooby Doo poster - over the top and a bit hokey. Maybe even so far as a sight gag.

Maybe you should let them know your opinion, which is valid. Honestly, I didn't give it much thought and given that my major was graphic design, that's a sad statement to make. I've been receiving these updates from the movie producers for awhile now and guess I'm just used to it. Even a low-budget, screwball comedy deserves a terrific poster though and you are right. They could do better :)

I think it's a matter of whomever did the poster was too closely involved with the making of the movie. Sometimes, you need people who are totally divorced of the situation to give you feedback. For companies and movies, that's typically focus groups. Clearly, it wasn't used here.

I finally figured out what was bugging me about the poster (besides the fact that it really doesn't hint at a plot) -- the image of the actors. It's awkward. Like it was taken with a normal background and then they were cut out from that background and pasted on the movie poster. Which is obviously what happened, but, if you look at the lines of their clothes and their hair, it's mostly smooth lines with not a much bunching that you'd expect by people moving around. It almost feels like someone used the lasso tool or one of the "easier" cutting tools to paste them on the pic and then smoothed out all the edges with either a clone tool or a smudging tool.

They also took the pic as themselves and not in character which is also jarring, too. They're supposed to be playing a couple and they're not very couple-y. There's visual space between them and their smiles seem forced. It's like the awkward pics you took for high school year book where you were standing next to someone you didn't know or like, but *had* to lean in near them to fit in the picture. That's what it feels like.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it all just feels forced and awkward. Hopefully the pair of them have better chemistry on screen.
