Chosen in under ten minutes (with Lauren's help); all fiction; in no particular order:
At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill_Beautifully written historical fiction, this book is about the relationship between two mid-teen Irish boys during the pivotal years of 1916 &1917.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card_I may not like Mr. Card but I love his science fiction, I first read Ender 20 plus years ago, then reread it several years ago, and am planning on rereading it yet again very soon.

The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling_I started reading these to Lauren when she was seven or so anxiously waiting with her as each new book came out year after year.  A couple of years ago, I reread them back to back and was just as enchanted as the first time even if reading them alone wasn't quite as much fun as reading them with my kid.

American Gods by Harlan Ellison_For this over 900 page book, Ellison deservedly won awards for fantasy, science fiction, horror and some other catagories too. It is about the battle betwwen the American Gods ie: the new gods and the ancient gods ie: Odin, Thor et al.

The Foundation Trilogy by Issac Asimov_Set something like 3,000 years in the future, this is hard core science fiction at its best.

Night Circus by Erin Morganstern_A weird and very visual fantasy encompassing three timeframes, all leading to one point and all focused around the most amazing circus ever.

Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley_About the relationship between two teenage boys living in relative ismall-town solation, one popular, one sexually abused, and how they attempt to protect each other.

Watership Down by Richard Adams_Rabbits, it's all about the rabbits and the world they live in.

Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix_A young reader fantasy series of seven books that Lauren recommended, this is a complex story of a young boy fighting for the survival of humanity with a completely unforgettable ending.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zukus_I love this book, how it's written, Death's little interludes, just all of it.

Ah. I forgot Harry Potter! How could I? *slaps forehead* But then - I think the fiction that came after the books was loads better! Harry Potter inspired so much creativity in so many people. Fantastic!

Of your list, I've read Ender's Game (I always recommend it as a starter book for folks who say they don't like science fiction), American Gods (so long ago that I can't remember a thing about it except that it knocked my socks off), The Foundation Trilogy (my husband's favorite fiction, bar none), Watership Down (meh), and The Book Thief (wonderfulest!).
