A mixed bag this month and a wee bit late :)

Month of July_Lauren has been doing some dog-sitting for friends. On the left are Ozzie and Batman, dachshunds from Los Gatos and on the right is Finn, a lovely mutt from San Jose.

Wednesday July 1, 2015_June reading_I reread the first two books of the Beggars trilogy, Beggars In Spain and Beggars And Choosers, and enjoyed them even more than the first time around. I also read the Essentials of Philosophy, a book that had been lying around for far too many years waiting for me to read it and which I enjoyed quite a lot. And lastly, I read The Girl on the Train for my bookclub. While the writing is lovely, I wasn't sure if I was enjoying the storyline until the end when the plot resolved itself in a way I finally did enjoy. Also, one of the characters gets black-out drunk while you're in their POV and I hated that feeling of claustrophobia, disorientation and vulnerability. Good writing :)

Thursday July 2, 2015_A pretty morning sky!

Saturday July 4, 2015_The gathering crowd from our location at Lake Almaden a couple of hours before the fireworks were to begin. It was much more crowded by then.

At which point, we realized that the comfy tree I had been leaning on was in the way. Oh well :)

Sunday July 5, 2015_A demonstration of how much water before was just now running down the kitchen sink drain but that is now being captured to be used to water my outdoors potted plants. Desperate times require measures that really aren't all that desperate

Monday July 27, 2015_The out-back patio of Acqui where I met my friend, Barbara, for a delightful lunch. Within ten minutes, the entire patio, much of which can't be seen, was full of happy diners.

All done!

Right? I totally agree. We don't have a dog ourselves but sitting the dogs of others is happily satisfying my and Lauren's need so, win/ win!!!

Thank you!! I'd gone out to get the morning paper, saw the lovely sky, and had to rush back in for my camera! Glad I did :)

I'm glad to see you're around and that you stopped by :)

What a bunch of cute little woobies! :D

Your firework pic reminds me of those white, fuzzy dandelions.

As to the water, California would be a lot better off if they "greatly encouraged" (read:forced) people to make major changes. Like ripping out their lawns and putting in rock gardens instead, putting in gray water recycling systems, disallowing HOAs from poo-pooing those changes, and for nixing useless water usage like golf courses and swimming pools. I'd also say charge extra for monthly overages. ie If that country club owner waters his golf course and fills his pool, make him pay 10x the normal bill as a "douche tax".

The patio looks lovely. Not sure I'd want to eat out in the heat we're having though; the high was 115oF

They absolutely cute, sweet and perky.

They do look like those dandelions :)

I agree!

Actually, the patio was rather cool tucked behind the building and protected by trees. I love eating out-of-doors so, if possible, we do. Since we haven't had such high temps so far, doing so remains possible.

Those are beautiful dogs.

I was at a friend's BBQ on July 4, but I did see some fireworks on the way home.

Desperate times require measures that really aren't all that desperate

It seemed like an inordinate amount of people discovered leaks just as the tougher drought restrictions took effect. (I am banging my head about some of the jerks in richer areas whose water usage has gone UP just to thumb their nose at the restrictions.)

Aren't they? All well taken care of, all a joy to be around. Finn especially is a terrific dog.

As long as you had a good time, and BBQs usually are, then you celebrated the fourth just as it should be. The Almaden Lake thing just started, last year was its first time, and it's actually pretty enjoyable and way easier than Morgan Hill which is what we had done for years.

I just read that this area has exceeded the 30% goal with a 35% overall savings so, fixing all those suddenly-found leaks matters but you're right about some of the rich guys. They seem to think that their money will somehow get them water regardless. A-holes!!

I have a weakness for Dachshunds but Finn is awfully cute!

The dachshunds are wonderful with very different personalities. Lauren likes the light brown one, Ozzie, better, he's calm and sweet while I like the dark brown one, Batman, better because he's enthusiastic, but Finn, we both agree, is the perfect combination of sweet and perky, a terrific little mutt.

Thank you!

Anytime :)

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy them. That patio is such a nice place for lunch, always shaded and colorful with lovely flowers. And the food is pretty good too :)
