I had hoped in this post to wax poetic about the rain we were supposed to get today but since the downpour only lasted about five seconds, I've decided to talk about my family instead since I haven't and probably should.

After a lovely, quiet day spent as I wanted since both of them were away -- school, work --  I then brought Lauren home and we were finally able to spend some time going though her recent photographs in order to get a few ready for me to post, along with mine, to the [livejournal.com profile] 100_snapshots  comm. Our first post!!! I don't know if they allow dual-posters but I'll undoubtedly find out soon enough.

She had me sit behind her while she worked, I read  mostly, so she could ask questions when necessary and she diligently went through them all resizing them, cropping them if necessary and in a few cases adjusting the color slightly. The comm. only allows minimal adjustments. She was very sure of what she wanted to do, how she ultimately wanted the photographs to look and I was pleased to see that, in my opinion, she had a very good eye. I'm trying to influence her as little as possible both when she takes the photos and also when she crops them and such so they really are a reflection of her.

A moment that made my heart proud was when, while looking at one of hers, she turned to me and said, 'I'm telling you, that looks like a Rauschenberg' and she smiled. And man, so did I.

Once I post to the comm. I'll link to my journal, or maybe the other way around, and you can let us know what you think.

She then joined me out in the courtyard with her laptop while I continued reading. My routine is computer stuff until Daiv comes home, and then reading. It was lovely out, sunny and just slightly breezy, bright blue skies, filmy clouds, that whole thing. I had taken the guinea pig, Tristan, out there much earlier in the day and it was nice to remember how the day had progressed since.

Daiv did a barbeque so there were only a few dishes to rinse and put in the dishwasher and then we watched a history channel sort of documentary on Alexander the Great. I would like to imagine Alexander really looked as pretty as they made him in the show but I doubt it.

Now Lauren's in her room no doubt playing on her computer or maybe bouncing off the walls from the sound of it, Daiv's rummaging through the pantry searching out the cookies to munch on while he decompresses from his day -- he had a major presentation this morning -- in front of the TV, and I'm in the bedroom listening to music and doing this meme. After this, I'll check email, read for awhile, and then to bed. Tomorrow's Saturday and we can sleep in. Right now, we're all here, we're all healthy, and we're all safe.

Sweet. And yeah, she's definitely bouncing off the walls, no doubt about it.

i wonder if you watched the same documentary we did in my age of alexander class this semester. even my professor, upon returning from knee surgery, said he probably wasn't as good looking as the documentary portrayed him.

yay for taking tristan out! we like to take jack outside but he frightens easily and spends the entire time pacing back and forth between two of the bushes.

glad to hear everyone is here and healthy and safe. that's the best way to be.

May have been, it was made by the History channel, and is part of an on going series of great military leaders. It almost looks like a graphic novel, the way they manipulate the colors and incorporate graphics.
Tristan does pace, he sits quietly on my lap sniffing the air. Birds calling make him a little nervous but he otherwise seems fine. I'd be afraid to put him on the ground, I'd imagine some great hawk swooping down and carrying him off.
The next day, I couldn't stand either of them, I wanted them both to just go away and leave me alone FOREVER. Funny how families can be like that. I still wanted them safe and well, just away. Now they're okay.

So glad you posted pictures of your courtyard. I could easily envision you sitting out there.

Nice little vignettes of your husband and daughter - I love those sorts of glimpses into people's lives. Thank you.

Off to get dressed and do some minimal straightening up before I pay the bills and go to the bank(s). FanSee

The banking was no big deal.

In a moment of weakness, I told Samantha I'd take her coins into be counted; that was Bank #1. (She had $55 and change.) Then I had to go to my bank and make a deposit. Good excuse to get out of the house and take a walk. FanSee

I loved reading about your day...peaceful, joyful, with people and creatures (hey Tristan) that you love.

What a gift you are giving to your daughter! Exposure to the beautiful, the creative, the controversial...art in its many forms! These are things I am only now beginning to learn about and I regret not being exposed to them sooner.

thank you for your nice thoughts. The thing is to keep it fun, to just step back and watch her make her own choices. My only suggestion to her was, at least in the beginning, to try and think abstraction. We're not tourists trying to capture a place, we're photographs making interesting photos. She works from strange angles and perspectives, sees really cool things I don't. Very fun.

What a lovely sounding day. Your daughter sounds like such a wonderful companion--I envy you that. My daughter and I are at a swords at noon stage (it would be swords at dawn but we both like to sleep in).

Looking forward to the pics,

Arwen

She is a very good companion. We have our disagreements and she has enough attitude to definitely define her as fifteen but generally, she's pretty cool. How old is yours? Is it an age thing, do you suppose?

I should have the pics up soon.
